The course presents the fundamental institutions and concepts which form the structure of contemporary international law. In the first part of the course are treated the sources, the subjects, the law of treaties, the exercise of state competences over persons and terirory, in the light of codification processes and latest developments within the international society. Legal profile of unilateral acts of State, universal jurisdiction, the exercise of diplomatic protection, are some of the topics covered in these part of the course. The second part deals with issues such as State responsibility, limits of the use of force, peaceful settlement of disputes, the functioning of international organizations, in general, and UN, in particular.
